STEP 1

Ask

  • What makes a song? Think about music notes. Sing Do Re Mi from the movie Sound of Music!
  • Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, with these music notes & sounds, you can make up millions of songs.
  • How do you create a song with these music notes?
  • How can you make Phiro to play a song with these music notes?
STEP 2

Imagine

Explore the Pink Music Swish Cards

Can you make your own tune with these tones? How about Jingle Bells? How many lines does Jingle Bells have?

Breakdown the Jingle Bells song into 5 lines.

  • Line 1: Jingle bells Mi Mi Mi
  • Line 2: Jingle bells Mi Mi Mi
  • Line 3: Jingle all the way Mi So Do Re Mi
  • Line 4: Oh what fun Fa Fa Fa
  • Line 5: It is to ride on a Mi Mi Mi
  • Line 6: One horse open slay Re Re RE Mi Re So

Plan

Get your Pink Music & Yellow Control Swish Cards ready.

What music notes does each word sound like? Find the matching pink Swish Card.

  • Line 1: Jingle bells Mi Mi Mi
  • Line 2: Jingle bells Mi Mi Mi
  • Line 3: Jingle all the way Mi So Do Re Mi
  • Line 4: Oh what fun Fa Fa Fa
  • Line 5: It is to ride on a Mi Mi Mi
  • Line 6: One horse open slay Re Re RE Mi Re So

TIP 1

Notice how if you play Mi Mi Mi, it sounds like a continuous sound? Use the Sound Break card between same music notes to avoid playing a continuous note.

TIP 2

Notice how Line 1 and Line 2 are repeated? Instead of swiping the 3 cards along with the Sound Break card for each line, you can use Yellow Control Swish Cards PAUSE and REPEAT 1.

STEP 4

Create

Select the Pink Swish Cards that match the music notes of each line. Swipe the cards on Phiro, press the button and press button. Test out Lines 1, 2 and 3 as shown here.

Line1 : Jingle Bells - Mi Mi Mi


Line2 : Jingle Bells - Mi Mi Mi - Swipe Pause & Repeat 1, to repeat "Mi Mi Mi" tone again

Line3: Jingle all the way - Mi So Do Re Mi


Continue creating the program for Lines 4, 5, and 6 of the song. Did the song work the first time? Any changes you made?

STEP 5

Remix

Try changing a line of the song to anything you imagine!

Try a new favorite song to play or make up a silly song with a friend and program Phiro to play it!
